About Us

Affiliation with sport and sporting entertainment is a major priority of the Bay Hotel Motel. Not only is the surrounding area very sport focused but the owner of the Hotel, Peter Cullen, is a keen sports fan himself.

This sporting passion is evident throughout the Hotel, with extensive sporting memorabilia lining the walls. This includes signed Rugby League and Union jumpers, signed surfboards, special edition pictures, golf memorabilia, a framed Olympic torch, various Cricket memorabilia, and a variety of other sporting paraphernalia. We also display a range of historic wine-making equipment.

Our facilities place a strong emphasis on sporting entertainment, not only in respect to televising sporting events, but also by providing a venue for many local sporting clubs and activities.

We provide extensive television coverage of all sports through Sky Channel and FOXSPORTS. The Hotel has 28 television monitors and the majority of these are dedicated to sport or televised betting. The public bar has a wide array of television screens where you can watch all the latest sport and utilise the TAB facilities.

The Bay Hotel has a strong commitment to the local sporting community and sponsors many local organisations and events. These include:
  • The Sunshine Sailing Club
  • The Dora Creek 'Swampies' Rugby League Club
  • The Morisset Strikers Soccer Club
  • OZSKI Annual World Cup Water Skiing Championships
  • The Variety Club Car Bash
  • The Variety Club Splash
The Hotel also donates money annually to:
  • The South Lakes Rugby Union Club
  • The local Tae Kwon Do Academy
  • Local schools - all local schools are supported well by the Bay Hotel. Donations are given towards prizes for funding activities and regular donations are made towards trophies and prizes at their sporting events.
Through our commitment to community service work, we initiate community based events such as the annual Christmas Carols in the carpark. This has proved extremely popular, with attendance growing each year.

The major community event sponsored by the Hotel each year is the Bay to Bay Fun Run - held on the first weekend of October. This event was actually initiated by the Bay Hotel in 1995 and its success has seen it become a focal community event for the area. This year, the event is also being sponsored by Coca Cola and is part of the Coca Cola Challenge series. There is a choice of 3km or 11km run and last year more than 400 people competed.

The success of the Bay to Bay Fun Run has led to an Aquathon being run in conjunction. This event is held on the Saturday (with the Fun Run on the Sunday) and involves a 3.2km run to the water, a 300m swim, and a 3.2km run back. This weekend event is now prominent not only within the Morisset area but also with visitors from interstate.

We also organise a variety of in-house events to promote sport and to enhance the enjoyment of patrons at the Hotel:
  • Sporting Dinners - these evenings include a sumptuous dinner with excellent wines, and feature special guests from the NRL or Wallabies.
  • Marlin Fishing Simulator - this has become a special annual event at the Bay Hotel, with local big game fisherman energetically participating.
  • Melbourne Cup luncheon
  • Rugby League Grand Final lunch
  • State of Origin dinners
The Bay Hotel also provides in-house tipping competitions and has installed a 'Sports Pick' computerised tipping system. We pay to telecast many extra sporting events such as Heavyweight boxing bouts, and fights with Anthony Mundine or other key sportspeople. If it's big in sport, you'll see it at the Bay.

We have four pool tables and competitions are run weekly, with up to 40 competitors participating. There is also a dartboard and a special inlaid chess table. Patrons often organise small tournaments between themselves. Our beer garden has a life sized chess board, a popular pastime during summer.

We are proud to have made it possible for young tennis players from the community to continue their sport. When the local sports complex decided to disband the children's tennis coaching squads, the Hotel was approached and permission was given for the Bay Tennis Academy to utilise the two tennis courts on site.

The Tennis Academy has produced several promising players. 16 year old Liana Burrows was chosen for the NSW State Union Team and traveled to Argentina and Brazil to play five test matches. Scott Gunning was chosen in the Futures Squad for the Northumberland region. With our support, these youngsters have been given the opportunity to excel in their sport.
