Lake Maquarie

& The Hunter Valley

Our Region

The Bay Hotel Motel is located near the shores of Lake Macquarie and the gateway to the famous Hunter Valley Wine Country, we are a short drive to the Central Coasts golden swimming beaches and surf breaks.

Lake Macquarie

… it’s refreshing to walk along the shores, allowing the air to nourish the mind, squelching brown sand between white toes and listening to the water gently stroking the rocks. It’s peaceful, tranquil and occasionally magical. Everything moves slowly. Nature takes measured steps and 9-to-5 lifestyles seem light years away. Creeks and tributaries trickle into the main basin, while the ‘noreasters’ and ‘southerlies’ provide relief even on the hottest summer day. On the other side of the lake is the Pacific Ocean and the now famous beaches, which are reputed to be among the finest in the state. Our beaches produce world-class surfers, champion surf life saving teams and great suntans. The sand stretches from Catherine Hill Bay to Caves Beach to Blacksmiths to Redhead to Dudley, up to and along the magnificent Nine Mile Beach stretch of coastline. The beaches are as wide as airport runways, clean and generally uncrowded.

The Hunter Valley

Australia’s Oldest Winemaking Region. Depending upon the season, Hunter Valley Wine Country will greet you with a different face. The burnt orange leaves of Autumn, the bursting buds and verdant greens of Spring, the deep blue haze of Summer and the cool grey greens of Winter… each of them will leave you yearning to come back. Explore over 80 Vineyards, delight your palate at one of the excellent restaurants, or pack a picnic and find a secluded spot set against a backdrop of vines and blue skies.

The Watagans

… rugged, steep and exhilarating. The Watagans provide views which are unmatched anywhere else. The mountain range has been divided into 13 state forests by the Forestry Commission and there are several camping and picnic grounds within the thick bushland. The rainforests, smelling damp and bursting with life, are spectacular. They are popular for bushwalking, with marked trails on some of the most popular routes.
